Splay Construction for Practical Hoardings
Splays in Practical Hoardings are achieved by offsetting the upright position and installing an additional stud at the splay junction. The skin extends beyond the frame (splay overhang) to create a flush corner finish — the same principle as Panel Hoarding splay panels.
Construction Method
- Position the offset upright at the splay junction to define the angle of the hoarding change
- Install an additional stud at the splay point — this provides the fixing point for the splay skin overhang
- Fix the skin overhang through the skin into the additional stud
Splay Overhang Fixing
| Detail | Specification |
|---|---|
| Fixing Method | Through splay skin overhang into additional stud |
| Screw Type | 65mm 10G Chipboard Screws |
| Fixing Points | Top, Middle, Bottom |

Key Points
- The splay overhang creates a flush, seamless corner appearance — same as Panel splay panels
- The additional stud must be plumb and level before fixing the skin overhang
- Where an offset upright cannot be installed, corner braces are mandatory — see Corner Brace Detail
- Ensure the splay angle is consistent along the full height of the hoarding
